Danger, Will Robinson.
Why it is hard sci-fi
The 2018 reboot of Lost in Space. A family-led colonial expedition is stranded on an unknown planet after a transit failure. The show commits to a working set of engineering problems. The chariot, a long-range surface vehicle, is shown with maintenance, fuel, and repair as recurring problems. The shows interest is in the engineering of a small group surviving with the equipment they have, with an alien robot as a single off-baseline piece.
Science inside it
Cryosleep transit, planetary-environment surveying, atmospheric and surface chemistry, and a working set of engineering and field-medicine procedures. The shows alien-engine subplot is its softest element and is contained inside an otherwise procedural shell.
