Why it is hard sci-fi
A 1997 Canadian-German space opera that uses a sentient organic warship called the Lexx as its base of operations. The show is uneven on physics but commits to a coherent universe with a two-universe topology, His Divine Shadow as a long-running antagonist, and an end-of-universe arc that runs across seasons. The grammar is operatic but the rules are followed.
Science inside it
Living spacecraft as a biological-mechanical hybrid, two-universe topology with a Foreshadow as the cross-universe link, and a worked structure of imperial control through a single emperors body. The show is more interested in the political consequences of a single-superweapon civilisation than in the physics.
