New cases. Endless impossibilities.
Why it is hard sci-fi
A procedural that uses a Fringe Division of the FBI to investigate a class of strange events called the Pattern. The shows interesting move is to commit to two parallel universes that interact through a research project, with each side carrying its own consistent technology baseline and history. The shows pacing is procedural with a long arc, and most episodes are framed as case files with a working hypothesis at the start and a diagnostic at the end.
Science inside it
Cross-universe contamination, mutated biology under sustained dimensional stress, neural-tissue-based machinery, fringe-physics experiments in a shared-history setting, and a long arc about the cost of running an aperture between universes. The show also commits to an alternate-2010s New York with different technology timelines.
