The future begins.

Why it is hard sci-fi

A live-action adaptation of the Fallout games. Soft on the science, careful about worldbuilding. The show commits to the games rules. The Vaults are working long-duration sealed habitats with hidden Vault-Tec experimental protocols, the surface is a post-nuclear ecology two centuries after the bombs, and the political institutions, including the New California Republic and the Brotherhood of Steel, have a coherent set of constitutional and military structures. The shows procedural texture is faithful to the games.

Science inside it

A long-duration sealed habitat as a research instrument, a working post-nuclear ecology with adapted fauna, a model of factional politics across a divided wasteland, and the engineering of power-armour as a working but maintenance-heavy military platform. The shows Vault-Tec experimental program is a working portrayal of a corporate dystopia that has continued operating after the apocalypse.
