Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe ... If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose, which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty and in all its flaws; and in so doing, better understand the world around us.
Why it is hard sci-fi
An anthology in which each episode is a near-future thought experiment with a single technology dialled up. Most episodes commit to one rule and follow it to the consequence. Memory recording, social scoring, dating-app matching, autonomous bee drones, consciousness uploads. The show is at its hardest when it picks a working capability and asks what a real society would do with it.
Science inside it
Lifelogging, neural memory replay, prediction-driven matching, drone swarms with identity-targeted lethality, full-brain emulation in a substrate, and the consumer-economy framing for each. The shows weakest episodes drop the rule. The strongest hold to it.
