Why it is hard sci-fi
A neuroscience procedural built around a memory-erasure clinic, Lacuna Inc. The procedure maps emotional associations to a target person and selectively damages the relevant neurons during a single overnight session. The film walks through patient intake, mapping, sedation, and the technicians side of the operation. The science is overstated but the procedural texture is what gives it weight.
Science inside it
Targeted neural ablation, associative memory networks, the role of emotional valence in consolidation. The film leans on real findings about how recall reactivates and reconsolidates memory, and turns that into a clinical service. The protagonist resists the procedure from inside his own collapsing memory by hiding her in places the map did not flag.
